About 5 years ago I visited a church with a friend of mine. This was our mission trip. Excitement all over the place. I remember well, that there was this church in which we sang songs with a small bunch of people. And there it happened. My friend walked to the front, and did a daring request. "Anyone who wants healing, come forward and I'll pray for you to be healed".
That was it, I was stunned, shocked and terrified. People really would fall for this kind of nonsense, I thought. But things couldn't have turned more dramatically as I witnessed the most amazing thing. A girl went up front, told my friend she suffered for more than one year from blisters in her mouth. He just laid his hand on her and prayed:"be healed in the name of Jesus". That's it. No thunders, nothing. And than:"well, do you feel something?" Now everything inside of me was thundering. She said she could feel it go away!
Four weeks later she told us that it had taken 2 days before the blisters were completely gone, and didn't come back.
As I said, many times I read the bible and saw how Jesus healed the cripple, the blind, the lame, but I didn't think much of it. But this all changed in this church in Reykjavik. From than on the thundering inside me put me on a path of research and amazement.
The first thing I had to find out was if this guy, friend of mine, was crazy. And I think he was, in a good way. Another thing that I had put my emphasis on was this: did he really love Jesus? And in some bizarre way, he did very much. But did he follow some special training maybe? Some kind of University of Theology? I found out he had not. And that was annoying. Because in my mind, these things could only happen to very 'special' people, like Jesus.
There was much to learn, but let me focus right now. One of the things that struck me, was the easiness with which my friend prayed. Actually he didn't pray. He simply spoke a few words in authority. As if the thing he said really would happen. Now that's encouraging, because I can be simple too. What about you? This thing is about how you can pray for the sick, and even have changes to see them healed in Jesus' name.
My next message is about how you can start to pray for the sick and even hoping they will recover. Staying bold in this kind of ministry is essential, and it's based upon Jesus Himself.
